It has come to my attention that many mobile phone users have been experiencing Adware attacks. This week alone, I have had two people contact me for help with this issue.

What is an Adware Attack?

Simply put, an Adware attack occurs when a cybercriminal or group of cybercriminals trick mobile phone users into installing applications that display intrusive ads at intervals while using their phones.

When you view or click on these ads, these attackers make money from them. In case you’re wondering why they do this, here’s your answer.

If you constantly see ads popping up and covering your entire screen while using your phone, you are likely experiencing an Adware attack.

If you are experiencing an Adware attack, I am 100% sure an advert will pop up before you finish reading this article.

How Do You Counter an Adware Attack?

The Adware running on your device behaves like any other application, such as Facebook or WhatsApp. However, the difference is that this app is usually silent — meaning it doesn’t have a name, and its logo is transparent and colourless, making it difficult to spot.

So, how do you find it?

Simply go to your app list in your device settings. Before the first app on the list, you’ll notice something that looks like an app with no name and no logo. It will have a data size, for example, 26MB.

That’s the Adware. Just click on it and hit the uninstall button. Voilà! Problem solved.

How Do You Avoid Becoming a Victim of Adware Attacks?

I’ll discuss that in my next article.

Goodbye for now.
