Easy Steps on How to Optimize Your Devices to Save Some Data
If we were to be in a country where the common man has access to affordable, high speed, unlimited internet connection, I won’t be writing this piece.
Remember in my previous post titled; “Debunking the Claim that Service Providers are secretly Consuming your Data Subscription”, I promised to give some optimization tips on how to minimize data consumption on your devices.
Some people have subjected themselves to slow internet connection so that their data subscription will last longer.
Did you know that you can enjoy a high-speed internet connection and still conserve your data if you take these easy steps?
Note that all that you’ll read here will be unnecessary if you don’t follow them judiciously.
Okay. Let’s go;
1. Uninstall or disable unwanted mobile applications
There are some apps that come pre-installed on your device. Some are mandatory apps like Duo (for android users) that you cannot uninstall. You can go to your apps & notifications settings to disable them, switch off background data, and disable auto-update on Play Store for those particular apps. Why update apps that you don’t use?
2. Switch off background data and notifications on all apps you don’t receive important updates from.
I for instance, the only apps that run on the background of my device are my email apps, WhatsApp, True Caller and some mandatory service applications. It also helps me save battery.

3. Turn off the automatic download of media content on your instant messengers, especially WhatsApp. Download the content you think is necessary.
4. Try to view less WhatsApp’s status, Facebook and Instagram stories. These are some of the biggest consumers of data. If you are tempted to always view everybody’s status and stories, mute them all. Lol.
5. Whenever you share your hotspot with any Windows10 PC, ensure you activate the metered connection on the PC. This will prevent the PC from downloading updates that can literary consume up to 5GB in less than two hours.
In a nutshell, if you are on a low monthly data budget, taking these tips seriously can save you some data.
However if you are interested in enjoying the best available experience your devices and apps can offer, then unread all that you just read. LOL.
