The Affiliate Marketing Frenzy!!!
I don’t know what you have been told about Affiliate Marketing. But this is what I can tell you. If a platform tells you to pay a one-off or recurrent fee to become their affiliate marketer, then you should be worried.
If you have to pay money or buy their products to become their affiliate marketer, just know that you are not their affiliate marketer. You are their customer.
Let’s look at the definition of Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts. (Summary of the Model: Join — Recommend — Earn)
Now, looking at this definition, where does an affiliate registration or Renewal fee come in? Or where does it say, buy first and then tell people to come and buy too before you earn?
Imagine applying for a marketing job at a bank. The bank gives you a target to bring in 20 customers Monthly to earn a commission. But you have to pay the bank 10,000 Naira every year to be their marketer.
Now, your question is, why do I have to pay you money to gain the right to bring you, customers?
It’s easy to reject such an offer right? Because it doesn’t make sense. But for some reason, you have decided to pay an online platform to become their affiliate marketer.
I know they tell you things like, “you just have to pay something, so that you will be serious”. Let me just tell you. They really don’t care if you bring buyers/customers or not. You are already their customer.
Getting potential customers to buy a product is demanding itself. It may cost you money. You may have to spend on advertising, making calls, creating Media content, buying data, etc.. Imagine now adding an affiliate marketer fee to it or buying the product first.
You hear things like, “you should sell a product you have used. It shows you believe in it”. But from experience, does a marketer have to believe in a product to market it?

Have you forgotten those guys that sell books with titles such as “How to build wealth in 5 years”?
It’s been a while since I saw them though. Maybe they have finally built wealth and left the streets. 😂

They further encourage you to start your own affiliate marketing class. The goal here is to get more people to subscribe as affiliates on their platform.
At the end of the day, they just gather a pool of affiliate marketers that pay them a recurrent fee or buy their products with the hope of selling to people.
So, whether you sell or not, these platforms are making their money off you as an affiliate marketer.
Have you noticed that people that do the Nigerian kind of affiliate marketing don’t actually practice affiliate marketing?
Instead, they focus on training people to join affiliate marketing.
Of cause that’s what you do when you cannot sell the so-called High-Value Products.
So you train people to sell what you cannot sell. And they do the same.
You hear a phrase such as; “take this course and implement all the strategies to start making 6 figures monthly”.
I know that you believe one day, you too will buy Benz with the affiliate marketer’s money or they will give you an all-expense paid trip to Dubai to chill.
Because you see those testimonies every day. But just know this. You are the customer. Period.
When looking for affiliate marketing platforms ensure you subscribe to the ones that don’t require you to pay shishi (money) or buy any product.
A good example is the Amazon Affiliate Program; affiliate-program.amazon.com
